Winter in Missoula: Our Favorite Activities
We have visited Missoula twice before, but never in the winter! Our first two times in Missoula were when we fell in love with the mountain views, people, and tasty restaurants/breweries. This time around was when we fell in love with the snowy mountain tops and all of the winter activities! You can read more about our other visits to Missoula here.
We wanted to share some of our favorite winter activities in Missoula. We loved how lively the city was despite it being mid-winter!
Watch the snow fall at Black Coffee Roasting Co
We fell in love with starting our day at Black Coffee Roasting Company. They have fantastic pour over coffee and toast that you will drool over! Our favorite toasts were the Avocado Toast and the Strawberry Jam with Cream Cheese Toast.
If you can, snag a spot up near the windows so you can watch the snow fall with a mountain background.
Snowboard or Ski at Montana Snowbowl
We always had wanted to try out snowboarding and decided to give it a try in Missoula at the Montana Snowbowl. While we definitely didn’t master snowboarding by the end of the day, it was enjoyable and we could picture ourselves visiting every weekend if we lived in Missoula.
Group Run with Run Wild Missoula
Even though it was cold and snowy, quite a few people showed up at Run Wild Missoula’s group run. We had been following the group for the past year and it happened to work out they were hosting a group run at the Dram Shop Central. We loved the motivation from the group and enjoyed a beer after while getting to know some of the runners. We definitely recommend getting out on a run with them!
Walk the city trails
One of our many favorite parts about Missoula are the walking/biking trails. They can take you all around Missoula and they’re a safe way to explore the city. After getting off work, we loved walking from the Sawmill District to downtown (even while it was snowing!).
Hike in the snow (our personal favorite!)
We had never hiked in the winter before and Missoula made it SO much fun. There was never much wind and as long as we bundled up, we weren’t cold. The views of the snowy trees and mountain tops are what made these hikes so special.
Some of our favorite trails in Missoula:
Waterworks Hills
Blue Mountain - Vista Loop Trail
Mount Sentinel
Rattlesnake Trail
Enjoy a drink and tasty food
There are A TON of great spots to grab a bite to eat or sip a drink. We felt like we had already been to a lot of the tasty spots, but there were so many more we hadn’t tried! They definitely didn’t disappoint.
