5 Alaska Breweries You’ll Want to Visit

We spent two weeks in Alaska exploring and learning everything we could about the beautiful landscape. We’ve shared a ton about the trails we explored and the landscapes we fell in love with, but we haven’t talked much about the amazing breweries we visited. We wanted to take the time to review each of our favorites!

Girdwood Brewing Company in Girdwood

On our way out of town after exploring Virgin Creek Falls, we spotted Girdwood Brewing. We hadn’t planned to stop at a brewery but loved how it was tucked back into the trees with a stunning mountain view.

They have outdoor seating with a food truck so we decided to start by sitting in some loungy patio chairs and grabbed a s’mores crepe (YUM).

Once we moved inside, we sat at the window pictured above and stared out into the mountains as we reflected on our day. This was the perfect spot to admire the views, enjoy a beer, and let it sink in that we were finally in Alaska.

49th State Brewing in Anchorage

Shared a Hefeweizen with lunch

49th State Brewing was highly recommend from multiple people! It’s a brewpub so it had a ton of options for both beer and food. It sits right in downtown Anchorage and has a rooftop that overlooks the water.

We sat on the second level that had surrounding windows. While we only shared one beer, we saw many more tasty options on the menu!

BearPaw River Brewing Company in Wasilla

Shared two hazy IPAs

We stopped here for two mini beers and wished we could have stayed longer! Hazy IPAs are one of Cody’s favorites, so this was definitely a great stop in his opinion. They also had a big, stone oven in the back which made it smell of freshly wood-fired pizza.

Turnagain Brewing in Anchorage

We were looking for one last brewery to stop at and after researching, we found that this one was highly recommended! Kate loves Belgian-Style beers so seeing a Dubbel AND a Tripel on the menu was a dream. Both beers were flavorful and hit the spot.

There are two floors of seating and a patio. We sat on the second floor that had windows surrounding us. We were able to overlook Anchorage and the surrounding mountains.

Bleeding Heart Brewery in Palmer

Cody’s flight from left to right: Mead, IPA, Coffee Porter, Hazy IPA

Kate’s flight from left to right: Wheat, Mead, Cider, Seltzer

Our favorite brewery… Bleeding Heart Brewery! We first walked in through a huge garage door and into a large seating area. The next room is the most important, it's where the bar is!

What we loved the most about Bleeding Heart was the diversity of the beer and the food (we highly recommend the banh mi sandwich). We ended up both ordering some flights because of how many beers we wanted to try.

Fun tip: make sure to check out the unique decor in the bathroom!

In addition to the beautiful wilderness, Alaska also has an amazing selection of breweries to try out. We’re so glad we got the chance to experience so many and are looking forward to the next time we get to revisit our favorites.
