Milwaukee Breweries You Don’t Want to Miss

We took a trip out to Milwaukee to check out the city and work remotely. We ended up going a little wild with the craft beer, but hey we now have some great recommendations to share!

Milwaukee is known as “Brew City” and that definitely intrigued us. Cody has been a craft beer fanatic for over 7 years now and turned Kate into loving craft beer 4 years ago.

As we planned for our Milwaukee trip, we wrote down quite a few breweries we wanted to visit, but left the city visiting WAY more than we intended. Here’s our review of our favorite breweries.

5. Milwaukee Brewing Company

Milwaukee Brewing Company sits in the Brewery District, which is just west from downtown. When we walked in, we were welcomed with a big, open seating area. One side was the brewery while the other served food. After looking at the menu, we quickly spotted our beer of choice. Cody decided on the Golden Lager and Kate went with her go-to, a Hefeweizen. Both beers didn’t disappoint.

While we only stayed for one beer, we saw many more on the list that sounded just as tasty.

4. City Lights Brewing Company

City Lights was a treat. They have a huge patio but we decided to stay indoors due to how windy it was.

Fun fact: they have a clock-in system! We had never seen this concept before. It’s where you clock-in each day that you’re at the brewery. Whoever has the most days at the end of the month wins a prize! We thought it was a super creative way to get more people in the brewery.

We put in an order of veggie nugz (we recommend!), Cody ordered the Mexican Lager and Kate did two tasters of the Hibiscus Key Lime Seltzer and Dragon Fruit Strawberry Seltzer. The beers paired well with our appetizer and kept us just full enough to get through the day, but also able to continue snacking if we went anywhere else.

3. Third Space Brewery

We loved Third Space not only for their beers, but also because of the awesome patio. Third Space had a simple, yet tasty-looking beer menu.

Cody got his favorite type of beer, a hazy IPA, and Kate tried a fruited sour. While neither of us drink sours often, we were happy with this one. It had a juicy raspberry taste and wasn’t as sour so was a pretty easy drink. The overall vibe of this place was 5 stars. We can only imagine what it’s like in the summer months!

2. Lakefront Brewery

This is one of the most toured breweries in MKE. It also has won awards for their cheese curds (and of course we tried them!).

As we walked in, the first thing we noticed was how big and open the brewery was with high ceilings and a stage up front. We ordered our usual beers (Kate a Hefeweizen and Cody a Pale Ale), which paired SO well with our order of cheese curds and sausage flight. We also soon learned that the cheese curds won an award for a reason! We were happy we were walking home afterwards because we were definitely full of tasty food and beer.

1. Eagle Park Brewing

Our favorite brewery came by complete surprise! This wasn’t on our original list of places to visit, but Cody found this spot on the map and thought we should at least swing through.

The beers were unique with flavors we had never tried before. Kate first ordered a 5oz of the Tropical Hard Seltzer and Peach Bellini Hard Seltzer. They were both light and easy to drink. Cody ordered the complete opposite with a coffee milk stout on nitro.

As we were drinking our beers, we noticed everyone getting a bright, blood-orange colored beer. We had to find out what it was so asked the waitress for the details. She came back with the Orange Puree. The description read: “Sour ale with marshmallow, vanilla, and orange puree.”

Eagle Park really hit it out of the park with unique and delicious beers, and is why we ranked it as our favorite Milwaukee Brewery. We can’t wait to stay in the loop with what else they end up brewing.

Honorable mentions:

BONUS: Delta Beer Lab in Madison, Wisconsin

We had to include this one on our list even though it’s not in Milwaukee. On our way into Milwaukee we made a stop in Madison to stretch our legs and walk by the lakes. We liked the sound of the brewery name and had to stop in.

Everything about this spot was awesome. The beers were named like the periodic table elements. We also ordered a wood-fire pizza, which was the perfect pairing to our beer.

As we drove home and wrapped up our trip to Wisconsin, we were full on beer and thankful for the amazing trip. Cheers to beers!
